Meghan Peyton of Team USA Minnesota won the USA 20-kilometer championship in New Haven, Conn., with a personal best time of 1 hour, 9 minutes, 57 seconds.

It was Peyton's first national title.

Peyton, who is training for the Twin Cities Marathon, was 27 seconds ahead of Mattie Suver and earned $9,000 for the victory. Matt Tegenkamp won the men's national title in 1:00.10.

Peyton will run in the USA 5K championships Sept. 22 in Providence, R.I.

Big Ten honors Dixon

Gophers senior middle blocker Tori Dixon, who is from Burnsville, was named the Big Ten player of the week in volleyball.

Dixon helped lift the Gophers to four 3-0 victories at the UAB/Samford Challenge. She led the Gophers in kills (49), kills per set (4.08), hitting percentage (.472), total blocks (11), blocks per set (0.92) and points (58).

Saints lose season finale

The St. Paul Saints fell 4-3 to Sioux Falls in 12 innings at Midway Stadium in the final game of the season.

Luke Murton singled home the winning runs of reliever T.J. Hose.

The Saints finished the season 47-53, losing their final four games and their final eight home games of the seaosn.
