Preview: One week after playing well but losing at Carolina — the toughest home team in the North American Soccer League — Minnesota goes on the road to play a San Antonio team without a victory or even a draw to its credit through four fall season games. History, however, isn’t on Minnesota’s side. San Antonio defended its home turf with a 2-0 spring season victory.

United FC at a glance: Minnesota was supposed to be on the edge of glory in the fall season after overcoming injuries to several players and internal turmoil. But four points in as many games has United seventh in the eight-team league. The good news? Just one three-point victory separates teams two through seven. Forward Max Griffin, who helped spark the offense with a goal and an assist in the first two games, will miss this game to attend his brother’s wedding.

San Antonio at a glance: The slumping Scorpions fired coach Tim Hankinson earlier this week. Taking over the coaching role is former San Antonio assistant Alen Marcina. Fans might remember Marcina from his brief stay with the Minnesota Thunder in 2008. So far this fall, San Antonio could score (six goals) but could not stop anyone (12 goals allowed). Marcina’s main task will be emphasizing defense.
