The Gophers men’s basketball team officially released its 13-game nonconference schedule on Tuesday, revealing no surprises and a relatively lax slate, with the exception of the Maui Invitational in Hawaii and the Big Ten-ACC Challenge.

Nine of the 13 games will be played at Williams Arena. The Gophers will face Syracuse in the opening round of games at Maui over Thanksgiving, and will play either Arkansas or California in the second round. For the third round, the rest of the field includes Baylor, Dayton, Gonzaga and Chaminade. The only other road trip will be to Richmond, the second half of a home-and-home series continued from last season.

The Gophers will play host to Florida State on Dec. 3 in the Big Ten-ACC Challenge. Their other games at Williams Arena are against Lehigh, Montana, Coastal Carolina, Wofford, New Orleans, South Dakota State, Nebraska-Omaha and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

The Gophers also will play two exhibition games to start the season, against NAIA Cardinal Stritch University on Nov. 1 and Division II Concordia (St. Paul) on Nov. 4.

Game times and television rights will be released later. The nonconference schedule is in Scoreboard on this page.

Wild signs Cuma

The Wild announced that defenseman Tyler Cuma signed a one-year, two-way contract. Cuma, 23, was the team’s first-round draft pick (23rd overall) in 2008, but has been plagued by injuries in his career and has played in only one NHL game.

Laorr, Herrick advance to women’s match play final

Anna Laorr of Hazeltine National and Olivia Herrick of White Bear Yacht Club advanced to Wednesday’s final of the Minnesota Women’s Golf Association State Match Play Championship at the Jewel Club in Lake City. Laorr defeated Sarah Burnham 5 and 4 in the semifinals, while Herrick topped Mari Miezwa 2 and 1.

Leigh Klasse of Keller and Claudia Pilot of Cragun’s Resort will meet in the senior final.

Etc.

• Jim Lehman of Minnetonka and Mark Knutson of Eden Prairie earned spots in the U.S. Senior Amateur Championship with their finishes in qualifying at Burl Oaks Golf Club in Minnetrista. Lehman shot a 2-under-par 70, while Knutson shot a 70. The national tourney will be held Sept. 21-26 at Wade Hampton Golf Club in Cashiers, N.C.

• Ole Sheldon went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and three RBI as the St. Paul Saints beat the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 11-1 at Midway Stadium.
