  • Updated: July 1, 2013 - 6:40 AM

Minnesota United FC dropped out of contention for the NASL spring championship with a 3-1 loss to host Edmonton on Sunday.

United (4-5-2) fell behind 2-0 as Mallan Roberts scored on a header in the 11th minute for Edmonton (3-4-5) and Daryl Fordyce headed a chance home in the 24th minute.

Miguel Ibarra, off an assist from Justin Davis, scored his first goal of the year as United cut the lead to 2-1 in the 67th minute. But Neil Hlavaty made it 3-1 for Edmonton in the 85th minute.

“I thought Edmonton did a great job, especially in the first half,” United coach Manny Lagos said. “They exposed us and we weren’t able to come back from that.”

United returns to action 7 p.m. Thursday against the Atlanta Silverbacks at National Sports Center Stadium.
