Wayzata wins 7th title in row

STATE MEET: Lucky No. 7. Wayzata won its seventh consecutive state synchronized swimming meet on Friday at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. The Trojans accumulated 143 points, outdistancing runner-up Stillwater. The Ponies wound up with 101 points, and finished second for the seventh year in a row. Sophomores Haley Ruegemer and Amanda Urke each had a hand in on three first-place finishes for the Trojans. Ruegemer won the long solo while Urke took first place in the extended solo. They teamed up to win the extended duet and were members of the extended team champions.

CLASS 3A

SECTION 1: Junior Michaela Mills hit her second home run of the season, helping Hastings to a 2-1 victory over Rochester John Marshall in the semifinals. She went 2-for-4.

SECTION 6: Orono scored four runs in each of the second and fifth innings and went to beat Edina 10-0 in the semifinals. Junior Rebekah Smith had two hits, a double and triple, and two RBI. Teammate Madison Arends, also a junior, went 3-for-4 with a triple and one RBI.

Edwards leads Prior Lake

CLASS 3A

SECTION 3: Junior Tyler Edwards hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning, giving Prior Lake a 6-5 victory over Apple Valley in the first round. He also picked up the win on the mound. … Tyler Godes, also a junior, only needed 84 pitches to throw a seven-hit shutout as Eagan eliminated Lakeville South 2-0. … Senior Joey Engeswick's run-scoring single in the bottom of the fifth inning was the difference in St. Thomas Academy's 2-1 victory over Park of Cottage Grove. Robbie Wolfe, who scored on the play, came on in relief for the save.

SECTION 5: The state's top high school pitcher, senior Logan Shore of Coon Rapids, fired a one-hit shutout as the Cardinals beat Maple Grove 5-0 in the quarterfinals. Shore struck out nine and walked one. He has signed with the University of Florida. … Bryce Marquardt is having a stellar senior season. Marquardt went 3-for-3, including a double, and scored three runs in Champlin Park's 7-2 victory over Centennial. He also stole three bases and had one RBI.

CLASS 2A

SECTION 5: Senior Mike Dockendorf threw a four-hit shutout, leading Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted to a 2-0 victory over Rockford in the opening round.
