Twins down to 25 players in camp

Posted by: La Velle E. Neal III Updated: March 29, 2013 - 10:15 AM

The Twins have placed righthander Tim Wood on the 15-day disabled list with a right rotator cuff strain.

They also have reassigned righthanders Rich Harden and Rafael Perez to the minor league camp.

That brings them to 25 players in camp. The only move left to make is to clear space on the 40-man roster so they can add Wilkin Ramirez. Rosters don't have to be finalized until Sunday evening, so the announcement might not come until then.

Lefthander Tyler Robertson struggled again on Thursday as his ERA rose to 8.49 this spring. But the Twins intend to keep him as a LOOGY/mop-up guy.

Check back here soon for lineups. Eduardo Escobar is in left field, I must warn you.

Liam Hendriks said his bullpen session yesterday went well and he's got the green light to start on Sunday in a minor league spring training game while the rest of the team unpacks in the Twin Cities. If that goes well, look for Hendriks to join the team next week. He could work out of the bullpen until it is time to make a spot start on April 7.

The Twins had hoped that Darin Mastroianni (sore left foot) could play Saturday before camp breaks. Doesn't look good.

``I'm not running today,'' Mastroianni said. ``If I'm not running today, I don't think I'll be playing on Saturday.''

Mastroianni needs a couple more days for the rest of the swelling to go down in the foot. He was injured earlier in the week when he fouled a ball off the foot.

I was unable to get to Justin Morneau for a sore back update. Will check after the game.

Here's an incredible stat I missed last night. Joe Mauer struck out for the first time all spring.
