Michael Rand started RandBall with hopes that he could keep lies from conquering the minds of the weak. So far, he's only succeeded in using the word "redacted" a lot. He welcomes suggestions, news tips, links of pure genius, and pictures of pets in Halloween costumes here, though he already knows he will regret that last part.

Wednesday (Scott Baker has injury setback ... again) edition: Wha' Happened?

The print edition of today's Star Tribune featured some interesting juxtaposition. Jim Souhan's cover column on the Twins' pitching staff -- in which he reasonably predicted the staff could be in big trouble, perhaps as bad as last year at least early on -- jumped to an inside page that had other baseball news on it.

Under the second subheading of a national baseball wire notes package, we learned that former Twins pitcher Scott Baker -- a guy Minnesota made attempts to retain but who ultimately signed with the Cubs -- is having elbow problems again, about a year after undergoing Tommy John surgery.

He has soreness in the elbow, was sent for an MRI and has been shut down for the time being.

Souhan notes that Mike Pelfrey, another pitcher coming off of TJ surgery and one the Twins did sign, has a 7.45 ERA this spring. That said, he's generally been awful numbers-wise in the spring during his entire career. He might just be the kind of pitcher who takes a while to get a feel for pitches, particularly after such a long layoff. And he is, at the very least, healthy and pitching while Baker is not.

Score one for the Twins in that regard. They might need to score a bunch more to support these pitchers, but at least they aren't saddled with more Baker arm troubles.
