As Sid Hartman reported in today's column, Gophers wide receiver Andre McDonald has been taken off the roster while he works through some personal problems. Coach Jerry Kill is confident McDonald can work through those and will welcome him back to the team once he's ready.

What does that mean for his 2013 prospects?

A person familiar with the situation confirmed for me tonight that McDonald is not enrolled at the University for spring semester and won't be be participating in spring practice. But McDonald still has time to get himself back in school for summer session and would be eligible for games this fall if things go as hoped.

McDonald was a highly touted recruit coming out of Hopkins High School. This profile by Phil Miller explains the hardship McDonald went through on his way to the University.

After playing in last fall's season opener against UNLV as a true freshman, he missed some games due to a medical issue and was suspended from the bowl game for a violation of team rules.

McDonald finished the season with just 10 catches for 121 yards and no touchdowns. He is brimming with potential but needs to get some things in order before he'll be able to fulfill it.
