GYMNASTICS STATE MEET

When: Friday (team) and Saturday (individual)

Where: University of Minnesota Sports Pavilion

Class 2A preview: Roseville, the 2012 champ, is the state's No. 1-ranked team, courtesy of a sterling 150.95 team score in the Section 5 meet. Northfield, which won the 2A title in 2010 and 2011, is ranked No. 2 and the only other team in the state to top 150 points with a 150.55 in the Northfield Invitational. St. Cloud Tech also has championship hopes, scoring a 149.425 in the Central Lakes Conference meet.

Class 1A preview: Defending champion and top-ranked Melrose will have its hands full with New Prague, the sentimental favorite. The No. 2-ranked Trojans overcame an early-season tragedy -- the sudden death of longtime coach Matt Shetka, who died of a heart attack while shoveling snow in early December -- to win the Section 2 championship.
