Girls' hockey section final roundup: Late goal lifts Lakeville North

  • Updated: February 14, 2013 - 11:52 PM

CLASS 2A, SECTION 1 CHAMPIONSHIP
• LAKEVILLE NORTH 3, DODGE COUNTY 2: After trailing 2-0, the Panthers scored three unanswered goals and killed two consecutive power plays on Thursday night to advance to the state tournament for the third time in the last four years. Dodge County led except for about the last 2 1/2 minutes. But the Wildcats' upset bid came to a screeching halt mid-way through the second period as Lakeville started converting their power play opportunities. Ashley Kloncz scored the go-ahead goal for Lakeville North with 2:39 left.

CLASS 2A, SECTION 7 CHAMPIONSHIP
• FOREST LAKE 3, ELK RIVER 2: The Rangers earned their first trip to the state tournament in a dozen years by beating the Elks in Blaine. Forest Lake jumped out to a quick lead, and held the Elks to just one goal for much of the game. A late power-play score for Elk River made things interesting, but the Forest Lake stout defense held up.

CLASS 1A, SECTION 1 CHAMPIONSHIP
• RED WING 9, NEW PRAGUE 1: Top-seeded Red Wing didn't hold back in Owatonna, cruising to its third consecutive state tournament appearance. Nicole Schammel had a hat trick in the opening period, and finished with four goals for Red Wing. Teammate Emile Stegora scored three times. Wingers goalie Ashley Corcoran stopped 15 of 16 shots.

CLASS 1A, SECTION 2 CHAMPIONSHIP
• MOUND-WESTONKA 3, MANKATO EAST 2: The White Hawks advanced to their first state tournament, topping Mankato East at Gustavus Adolphus in St. Peter. Mound-Westonka jumped out to a quick two-goal lead in the first period, and weathered a couple of rallies from the Cougars.
