BOYS' BASKETBALL

Apple Valley beats Lakeville North in overtime; Jones breaks record

APPLE VALLEY 79, LAKEVILLE NORTH 75 (OT): Tyus Jones (22 points), Brock Bertram (18) and Harry Sonie (18) led the Eagles over the Panthers Tuesday in overtime, negating JP Macura's 31-point effort. Grant Erickson (13) and Zach Creighton (12) were the only other Panthers in double figures. Jones, a junior point guard, is now the leading scorer in school history with 1,739 points.

ARMSTRONG 81, ELK RIVER 78 (2OT): Mitchell Biewen's 21 points led the Eagles to the double-overtime victory over the Elks. Porter Morrell scored 30 and Clay Elrod 25 for the Elks.

• BUFFALO 61, MINNEAPOLIS SOUTH 49: Ethan Freer had 11 points as the Bison defeated the Tigers. Both teams boasted balanced scoring attacks, as six Bison scored seven or more points, while the Tigers had Kenley Farrow (12) and Payton Bowdry (10) in double figures.

• MAPLE GROVE 68, ANOKA 48: A 40-20 halftime-deficit was a harbinger for the Tornadoes, as the teams played it even down the stretch in the 20-point Crimson victory. Brycen Wojta led all scorers with 24 for Maple Grove, teammate Erik Olson added 17. Malcolm Seals led the Tornadoes with 15.

GIRLS' BASKETBALL

• NEW PRAGUE 57, FARMINGTON 41: Lexi Ruehling had 26 points for the Trojans as Ron Gunderon -- the only coach in team history -- became the fourth girls' coach with 600 or more career victories.

• MAPLE GROVE 58, ANOKA 45: The Crimson came out fast in the second half, turning a three-point halftime deficit to a double-digit victory. Angie Davison of Maple Grove led all scorers with 15 points, while teammate Kaela Jones added 12. Claire Lundberg paced the Tornadoes with 14 points.

• EDINA 60, MINNETONKA 50: MC McGrory led the way with 29 in the Hornets' victory over the Skippers. The Skippers had a pair in double figures, with Anne Hamilton scoring 12 and Courtney Fredrickson 10.

PARK OF COTTAGE GROVE 59, MOUNDS VIEW 43: Sydney Lamberty had 23 points, and teammate Larissa Lurken added 17 as the Wolfpack defeated the Mustangs. Jacky Volkert and Katie McDaniels had 11 points apiece in the loss.

MONTICELLO 57, BUFFALO 49: The Magic defeated the Bison, paced by 18 points from Grace Sawatzke and another 13 from Gabby Laimer. Emily Spier had 15 points, seven rebounds and a block in the loss.

BOYS' HOCKEY

• BUFFALO 2, MONTICELLO 1: A pair of unassisted goals in the second period propelled the Bison to a one-goal victory, as Jack Patnode and Aaron Rouse had single markers for Buffalo. Reese Carstens scored the sole goal for Monticello.

• BURNSVILLE 6, LAKEVILLE SOUTH 2: The Blaze scored five of the first six goals to cruise to a victory over the Cougars. Dan Ames, Sam Dockry, Tyler Sheehy, Teemu Kivihalme, and Nick DiGregorio all had two points for the Blaze.

• ORONO 5, LITCHFIELD/DASSEL-COKATO 1: A four-goal, third period outburst broke a 1-1 tie and provided the margin of victory for the Spartans. Joey Luedtke had two goals, and Danny Wilson had a pair of assists as four different skaters each had two points for the Spartans.

• MOUND-WESTONKA 5, DELANO 4 (OT): Hunter Smith's goal at 4:03 of overtime -- his second of the game -- provided the winning score as the White Hawks defeated the Tigers. Charlie Curti had a goal and two assists for the White Hawks, while Justin Oja had a pair of goals for the Tigers.

GIRLS' HOCKEY

• NEW PRAGUE 4, RED WING 3: The Trojans scored three unanswered goals -- all in the third period -- to defeat the Wingers. Lindsay Paschke had two goals and an assist to lead the way for the Trojans, while Paige Haley tallied a pair of goals for the Wingers in defeat. Sophie Puente had 43 saves in the victory.

• MOUND-WESTONKA 4, MANKATO EAST 1: Three third period goals provided the margin of victory for the White Hawks. Jessica Nkhata scored the middle two goals, and added an assist. Mariah Kragh scored the lone goal for the Cougars.

• MOUNDS VIEW 3, EAST RIDGE 1: Paige Kittleson stopped 14 of 15 shots to help the Mustangs slow down the Raptors. Katelyn Bergloff scored the only goal for the Raptors in the loss.
