A CHANGE OF COURSE
• The Gophers ended a four-game overall losing streak against Michigan State as well as a five-game home losing streak to the Spartans.

• The Spartans had won 12 of the past 13, 17 of the past 19, and 22 of the past 26 meetings against the Gophers. Tom Izzo has a 25-9 all-time record against the Gophers.
• This was the third time in the past five seasons the two teams met on New Year's Eve. In 2008, MSU won 70-58 at Williams Arena. In 2010, the Spartans won 71-62 in East Lansing.
