Jerry Zgoda missed the entire Kevin Garnett era, but he's back covering the Timberwolves after working the beat for their first four seasons two decades ago. In between, he covered a bit of everything: Gopher men's and women's basketball and NCAA athletics, golf, outdoor recreation, sports media and a little Vikings and Twins.

Roy surgery scheduled today in Twin Cities

Brandon Roy will undergo arthroscopic surgery today here in the Twin Cities.

Wolves doctor David Fischer will perform it and the prognosis won't be known until afterward, although it's likely to be exploratory in nature rather than a definitive task to fix something.

His absence at least for the coming days and weeks initially will mean Josh Howard plays more minutes at shooting guard until J.J. Barea gets healthy and the Wolves figure out if they can make any other roster moves.

Barea did not practice today except for doing some shooting and he declined interview requests after practice.

Adelman said he's heard talk about getting Barea available by Wednesday's game against Denver, but sounded doubtful because he hasn't been able to participate in practices Sunday or Monday so far.

Nikola Pekovic, meanwhile, went through his second consecutive practice today seemingly without any issues.

Asked whether big Pek will play against the Nuggets, Adelman said, "He better."
