Phil Miller covered three seasons of Twins baseball, but that was at a different ballpark for a different newspaper. Now Miller returns to the baseball beat after joining the Star Tribune as the Gopher football writer in 2010, and he won't miss the dingy dome for a minute. In addition to the Twins and Gophers, Miller covered the Utah Jazz and the NBA for six years at The Salt Lake Tribune.

8:35 p.m. UPDATE: Friday night's game officially has been rained out. It is rescheduled for 6 p.m. Sunday as part of a doubleheader.

6:10 p.m. UPDATE: The game is officially in a rain delay.

DETROIT -- Rain could be a factor tonight, as the Twins and Tigers try to open a three-game series at Comerica Park.

The Twins are going with their A-lineup, knowing this is a big game in the AL Central standings. The White Sox, who play the Angels tonight in Anaheim, have a two-game lead over the Tigers with 13 games remaining.

It’ll be interesting to see how Twins starter Samuel Deduno fares under the spotlight. He lasted just four innings and gave up four runs last Saturday against the White Sox.

The Tigers have catcher Alex Avila back in the lineup. He hasn't played since spraining his jaw in a collision with first baseman Prince Fielder last weekend.
