Wolves race past JWP

Recap: The Wolves, making their first state tournament appearance, showed no jitters as they scored the game's first 13 points (in the first two minutes, 41 seconds) and shot 54 percent from the field en route to the victory.

Turning point: JWP trailed 26-9 with 4:43 remaining in the first half but was unable to cut into the deficit before halftime. The Bulldogs (20-11) went 0-for-5 with five turnovers over the final 4:43 and trailed 39-10 at halftime.

The quote: "Their team is very well-named, Transitions. They go quick. This was a different atmosphere and a different level of quickness. We just couldn't compete with them," JWP coach Ted Hammond said.

Noteworthy: Virgil Baker, a 6-3 senior, had 20 points and 10 rebounds, and Kevin Noreen, a 6-8 sophomore, had 18 points to lead the Wolves (27-4), who won their 13th consecutive game. Noreen had five of the Wolves' 15 steals. ... Jacob Schrom had 15 points and Josh Kopachek had 11 points to lead the Bulldogs. They were the only Bulldogs to score in the game's first 31 minutes. The Bulldogs shot 22 percent (12-for-54) from the field.
