Kyle Mayne is a senior defender on the Eagan boys' soccer team. He would like nothing better than to finish his career playing in the state tournament.

Here is a closer look at Mayne:

The best movie I've seen in the last year? To be completely honest, "The Hunger Games." I didn't expect to enjoy it, but I thought it was great.

Three songs I never skip on my iPod are ... "Radioactive" by Imagine Dragons; "Victim" by Eighteen Visions; "We are Young" by Fun.

Three words or phrases my friends or teammates might use to describe me? I'm not too sure ... maybe funny, smart and shy.

What are your three favorite apps? Jetpack Joyride is my favorite, but I also like Pocket Tanks Deluxe and Frozen Bubbles (on android).

What is your most memorable moment as a high school athlete? Probably our 1-0 win against Burnsville last year when our Swedish foreign exchange student scored a half-field free kick with 40 seconds left in the game. The excitement was incredible!

At my first varsity practice, I felt ... scared. I was freaking out a bit because I didn't expect to make the team in the first place, and I felt I had to prove my spot on the team to everybody.

What did you work on in the offseason? I spent the offseason playing soccer for Valley United Premier along with some of my varsity friends, and we simply worked on honing our soccer skills.

What are your goals for the 2012 soccer season? Of course, winning state is a big goal. But before that we must win sections, so that's where my mindset is right now.

What is your favorite meal prior to a game? Definitely pasta, any type. I can't get enough of it.

To get focused for a game, I ... like to just sit and think. Music sometimes helps to relax me, but simply thinking about the upcoming game helps me focus the most.

Who is your school's biggest rival, and why? Eastview because they mooch off our city! Although Apple Valley also has a history of competing with us.

How did you balance school and sports during the year? I basically spend my days going to school, playing soccer, then doing my homework before going to bed. It takes a lot of time and effort, but it's not impossible.

If you could change one thing about high school sports, what would it be? If I could change one thing, it would be getting rid of fundraising, but we all know that can't happen.

In 10 years, I hope I'm ... done with college and earning a graduate degree. I would like to get into a profession involving math and science, such as engineering, chemistry, biology or astronomy.

What is the best sports advice you ever received? "When you pull on that jersey, you represent yourself and your teammates ... and the name on the front is a hell of a lot more important than the one on the back." - Herb Brooks
