Bridge Tusler had a bad game last week. The Orioles still beat their rivals from Maple Grove, but it's not one he'd like to remember.
"I was very disgusted, to be honest," said the running back. "I used to be a real big and physical kind of guy. You can't dance, you can't juke; you just have to run hard. I can't dance anymore. It's high school football."
Tusler, who watches five or six hours of film each week, added some college and NFL games to the mix this week, consulted his mother and watched his little brother run for three touchdowns earlier in the week.
It paid off Friday night as Tusler led the Orioles to a 35-14 Northwest Suburban victory at home over conference rival Blaine with a scintillating performance.
Tusler completed the following: one rushing touchdown, one touchdown pass reception, one passing touchdown, three interceptions -- returning one for a touchdown -- one fumble recovery, several deflected passes, punishing tackles, blocks and bulldozing rushes.
Ninth-ranked Osseo forced six Bengals turnovers, and the offense moved dynamically. To start the game, the Orioles strung together a 12-play, 78-yard scoring drive with Garrison Gillard completing all four passes he tried, including a 30-yard touchdown strike to Tusler.
Three plays later, Tusler got it done defensively, reading Alex Copa's pass brilliantly to intercept the ball near the line of scrimmage and return it 40 yards untouched for the score. An end-around halfback option gave Tusler the opportunity to complete a touchdown pass. He ended his night with a 15-yard rushing touchdown.
"If he plays like this every night, I'll keep him for the rest of my life," head coach Derrin Lamker said.
