La Velle E. Neal III has covered baseball for the Star Tribune since 1998 (the post-Knoblauch era). Born and raised in Chicago, he grew up following the White Sox and hating the Cubs. He attended both the University of Illinois and Illinois-Chicago and began his baseball writing career at the Kansas City Star. He can be heard occasionally on KFAN radio, lending his great baseball mind to Paul Allen and other hosts. Mark Rosen borrows him occasionally for WCCO-TV.
Josh Willingham is not in the starting lineup today because of his sore right hamstring, but is available to pinch hit.
Willingham said he could play today if he had to, but he's taking a big picture outlook and wants to be able to play the rest of the schedule in the best condition possible.
Twins manger Ron Gardenhire said that the combination of not starting on Wednesday and Thursday's offday will defintely help Willingham in his effort to finish the season without the hamstring being an issue.
Jamey Carroll is getting the day off too.
Righthander P.J. Walters is making his first start since June, as he's needed two months to recover from shoulder problems.
The Twins have a chance to finish with a 4-2 road trip.
For those of you who like to go to spring training, things are stirring between Fort Myers and the Washington Nationals.
Class A Beloit is only Twins affiliate still in action, as their Midwest League playoff series begins tonight. The Snappers have been taking it easy with top prospect Miguel Sano because of a sore ankle, but he should be good to go tonight.
