12th-seeded Colorado scraps its way past Baylor in two overtimes

Last update: March 13, 2008 - 9:56 PM

KANSAS CITY, MO. -- Baylor learned a hard lesson Thursday in the first round of the Big 12 tournament.

Being the favorite isn't easy. Everybody loves the underdog.

Colorado, playing for little more than pride, shot a sizzling 72 percent in the first half and gained a 91-84 double-overtime victory at Sprint Center.

The Buffaloes (12-19) became the first No. 12 seed to win a game in the 12-year history of this event. Colorado advanced to meet No. 4 seed Oklahoma in today's quarterfinals.

Curtis Jerrells had 20 points for Baylor (21-10), and Henry Dugat scored 19 more. But Colorado's Marcus Hall ran the give-and-go to perfection and piled up 10 assists and 25 points.

Buffaloes senior Richard Roby was on the receiving end of those passes and finished with 32 points on 11-for-18 shooting. Roby scored eight of his points in the second overtime.

"We came out a little flat against a team that wants to win for their seniors," said Baylor's Kevin Rogers. "It came back to bite us."

We just didn't take care of business tonight."
