WEMBLEY, England - The U.S. is clinging to a 2-1 lead over Japan after 75 minutes in the women's gold medal soccer game.

Japan threatened to tie it up in the 74th when Nahomi Kawasumi took a shot from close range that Amy LePeilbet cleared off the line. That set off a mad scramble in front of the goal, but the Japanese couldn't convert.

Carli Lloyd scored both goals for the Americans, who are seeking their fourth Olympic title. But Yuki Ogimi pulled one of the goals back in the 63rd minute, tapping a shot from the corner past U.S. goalkeeper Hope Solo.

The game is a rematch of last year's World Cup final, won by Japan in a penalty shootout.

WEMBLEY, England (AP) — Yuki Ogimi scored in the 63rd minute to cut the U.S. lead to 2-1 in the women's gold medal soccer game.

Homare Sawa took a shot from about 10 yards that was cleared off the line by U.S. captain Christie Rampone. But Sawa got the ball back and sent it to Ogimi, who tapped it past U.S. goalkeeper Hope Solo.

Ogimi's goal came less than 10 minutes after Carli Lloyd had given the U.S. some insurance with her second goal of the game. Picking up the ball just inside midfield, she dribbled all the way to the box before ripping a shallow, right-footed cross that settled just inside the goal post. Lloyd also scored on a header in the eighth minute.

The U.S. is seeking its fourth Olympic title, and third straight. The game is a rematch of last year's World Cup final, won by Japan in a penalty shootout.
