Murray thrills Brits

Andy Murray stood with the Union Jack draped over his shoulders, an Olympic gold medal around his neck, and basked in the roar of the Centre Court crowd.

No wonder the often dour Scotsman was grinning.

Murray won one for the home team Sunday, beating Roger Federer 6-2, 6-1, 6-4 in the Olympic men's tennis final at Wimbledon.

The victory marked a career breakthrough for Murray. He has lost all four of his Grand Slam finals, three against Federer.

"It has been the best week of my tennis career by a mile," Murray said. "I'll never forget it."

Women's Doubles TENNIS

Williams sisters win

Serena Williams relishes her role as copycat little sister. Even if it takes her 12 years to make that copy.

Now she has an Olympic double -- just like Venus.

Serena and Venus Williams won the women's doubles title, beating Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka of the Czech Republic 6-4, 6-4. Serena added that to the singles gold she won a day earlier. Venus won singles and doubles in 2000 at Sydney.

"Crazy," Serena said. "I'm always copying her. I forgot that she did it in Sydney."

Soccer

Canada vs. U.S. today

The coach of the Canadian women's soccer team took a swipe at the Americans on Sunday, accusing the U.S. team of "highly illegal" tactics -- or perhaps just reaching for an edge in Monday's semifinal at Old Trafford in Manchester. John Herdman said the Americans go beyond the rules with their physical play on set pieces.

"One of the big threats we've got to take care of is the illegal marking in the box on their corners and free kicks," Herdman said. "We've started working on that in training without trying to injure our players."

WOMEN's Beach Volleyball

U.S. teams win

Kerri Walsh Jennings and Misty May-Treanor beat Italy in straight sets in the beach volleyball quarterfinals to remain on track for a third consecutive gold medal. The Americans earned a berth in the semifinals against Beijing bronze medalists Xue Chen and Zhang Xi. The Chinese team has beaten the U.S. team the past three times they've met.

In another quarterfinal, the No. 2 U.S. women's team of Jennifer Kessy and April Ross beat the Czech Republic 25-23, 21-18 and will play top-seeded Brazil in the semifinals.

Wu Minxia finally has her own gold medal. The Chinese diver won the women's 3-meter springboard for her record-tying sixth career medal but first individual gold. Wu tied retired countrywoman Guo Jingjing as the most decorated divers in Olympic history.

McKayla Maroney, a U.S. gymnast considered all but a lock for a gold medal in individual vault, took a fall on her second attempt and had to settle for silver.
