NHL.com is reporting that former North Stars center Mike Modano is one of three players named to the 2012 class of the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame.

Modano played fior 20 of his 21 NHL seasons with the North Stars and their successors, the Dallas Stars, before spending the final year of his career in Detroit.

NHL.com writes: "The first pick in the 1988 NHL Draft, Modano, a native of Livonia, Mich., closed his career as the Stars' all-time leader in games played (1,459), goals (557), assists (802) and points (1,359). He also holds franchise records with 145 playoff points in a club-high 174 games. He remains the all-time leader among U.S.-born players in goals (561) and points (1,374)."

Here is the rest of the story.

Here are Modano's career statistics. Modano played for four seasons in Minnesota (1989-93)  during which he scored 123 goals.

The other inductees are center Ed Olczyk and hockey executive Lou Lamoriello.

The U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame is located in Eveleth, Minn.
