Post time: 7 p.m. Best bet: Ms Manana (6th race). Best play: 50-cent Pick 4 (5th): 1/4/5/6-1-1/5/6/-1/3/4/5/7/9/10, $42.00.
3 1/2 furlongs. State bred. Fillies. 2 year-olds. Maiden special weight. Purse $18,560. #/Horse, Jockey, Trainer Wt. Odds 1/Amazingly Karen, Trimble, Berg 118 5-1 2/Mimi's Obsession, Butler, Rengstorf 118 3-1 3/Informal Fannie, Velazquez, Bethke 113 4-1 4/Diamond Done Gone, Luark, Bethke 118 6-1 5/Caring Karen, Dieguez, Berg 118 6-1 6/Unbridled's Siren, Keith, Rhone 118 2-1 A slight edge to MIMI'S OBSESSION in this group of 2-year-old fillies making their career starts. Has a couple of nice works at three furlongs and jockey Butler jumps aboard instead of riding for his father in-law's horse, UNBRIDLED'S SIREN, my second choice. Trainer Rhone does well with first-timers and gets veteran Lori Keith to ride. Has two nice works coming in. INFORMAL FANNIE has a outside chance for trainer Bethke, who doesn't really send his horses out firing, but filly showed quick foot two works back.
5 1/2 furlongs. State bred. 3-year-olds and up. Maiden claiming $5,000. Purse $8,960. #/Horse, Jockey, Trainer Wt. Odds 1/Prairie Appeal, Delorme, Donlin 119 2-1 2/Kentucky Shot, Trimble, R. Johnson 119 4-1 3/Jolly Boat, Velazquez, Bethke 114 5-2 4/Demis Lil' Star, Walker Jr., Winget 119 5-1 5/Demidoffs Prospect, Hernandez, Winget 119 8-1 6/Ghazi's Patch Work 123 6-1 PRAIRIE APPEAL had a troubled trip last out after being blocked but still finished for show money seven lengths back. Has good early speed to get off the rail and the cut back in distance tonight should be a bonus. GHAZI'S PATCH WORK is coming off a nine-month layoff with a couple of good works. Will be able to stalk from outside post with much speed to the inside. Wasn't much of a factor here last year but might have found the right struggling group of maidens to turn things around. JOLLY BOAT finished sixth in our top pick's last race as the favorite. Showed good early speed before falling off the radar down the stretch. Should improve.
1 mile. Turf. 3-year-olds and up. Allowance. Purse $16,000. #/Horse, Jockey, Trainer Wt. Odds 1/Grandpa George, Bell, Robertson 121 7-2 2/Whiskey Decision, Delorme, Porter 121 8-1 3/Aikman, Goodwin, Brinson 116 10-1 4/Whiskey Double, Riggs, Biehler 116 5-1 5/Bodacat, Franco, Silva 121 6-1 6/Council Oak, Keith, Biehler 121 4-1 7/Here Comes Henry, J. Rivera Jr., Weir 121 8-1 8/Corporate Chapel, Walker Jr., Mankin 116 10-1 9/Seeking the Reward, Butler, Rengstorf 116 6-1 AIKMAN has two races on the grass and was much improved in second effort at Turf Paradise. Trainer Brinson has yet to lose a race this early season and is hitting 38 percent with horses entering his barn first time out. Should be on or near the lead. COUNCIL OAK is a consistent runner who is usually in the mix. Runs just as well off the turf in case we don't see our first turf race of the season. Has two good works coming in after facing tougher. GRANDPA GEORGE will be making turf debut tonight for the Robertson barn and should show good early speed off the rail with jockey Bell on board.
7 1/2 furlongs. Turf. 3-year-olds and up. Claiming $25,000. Purse $13,500. #/Horse, Jockey, Trainer Wt. Odds 1/Grind, Hernandez, Boarman 121 5-1 2/Red Shoes, Delorme, Kirby 123 9-2 3/Jix, Riggs, Pfeifer 121 6-1 4/Thats Ray's Tiger, J. Rivera Jr., Sheehan 121 10-1 5/Far Flung, Franco, Silva 121 8-1 6/Erv the Banker, Butler, Rengstorf 121 15-1 7/Mr. Bubba Cat, Walker Jr., Scherer 123 6-1 8/Shimmy Tinjo, Bell, Robertson 121 7-2 9/Wolsfeld Woods, Luark, Ranwick Jr. 121 15-1 10/Northern Thunder, Morales, Rarick 121 12-1 Wide-open turf race but I like SHIMMY TINJO, who is stretching out after never threatening last out at a short sprint in a allowance race at Oaklawn. Gelding is bred well for the grass. Does have one turf race under his belt from last year, and trainer Robertson excels in races going from dirt to grass. FAR FLUNG won on the turf last out closing from far back and getting up in final strides. Would probably love to see fast fractions up front and might sit up closer going slightly shorter tonight. JIX has run second past three times on the grass, and past two were by photos. Another deep closer who would love a speed duel up front.
3 1/2 furlongs. Fillies. 2-year-olds. Maiden special weight. Purse $14,500. #/Horse, Jockey, Trainer Wt. Odds 1/Dancing Elliebelle, Walker Jr., Corcoran 118 2-1 2/Midnight Kitty, Riggs, Hartman 118 9-2 3/Golondrina, Dieguez, Sheehan 118 8-1 4/Mis Guided Missile, Keith, Hartman 118 6-1 5/Cowgirl Greeley, Velazquez, Bethke 113 3-1 6/My Special Rose, Luark, Bethke 118 7-2 DANCING ELLIEBELLE is showing quickness in her works for this short sprint of 2-year-old fillies. Could come flying off the rail to take the lead in gate-to-wire victory. Jockey Walker is at a 29 percent winning clip. Trainer Bethke is bringing in two horses from his barn in COWGIRL GREELEY and MY SPECIAL ROSE. Both have solid work tabs coming in. My Special Rose will make her second start after an average performance at two furlongs. Might have needed the education that race.
6 furlongs. Fillies and mares. 3-year-olds and up. Claiming $5,000. Purse $7,000. #/Horse, Jockey, Trainer Wt. Odds 1/Ms Manana, Riggs, Berndt 119 2-1 2/Halo's Tide, J. Rivera Jr., Sheehan 123 12-1 3/Flame It, Franco, Silva 119 6-1 4/Ticklemeterrellmo, Dieguez, Rarick 123 10-1 5/Julia's Breeze, Castro, C. Davis Jr. 119 5-1 6/Dubaidora, J. Rivera, Biehler 119 7-5 MS MANANA should enjoy the added distance tonight to stalk off the rail after missing by little over a length for third last out. Trainer Berndt is off to a solid start and will look to turn the table on DUBAIDORA, who finished just ahead in that race for place. Dubaidora will set the pace from the outside post but I think the extra half-furlong could hurt the filly's bid to win. JULIA'S BREEZE could make a late run if our top two decide to duel it out up front. Cuts back to a sprint after running three route races in Illinois. Has good tactical speed to sit up closer if chooses.
6 furlongs. State bred. 3-year-olds and up. Maiden special weight. Purse $18,560. #/Horse, Jockey, Trainer Wt. Odds 1/Sue's Stormy, Walker Jr., Rengstorf 119 8-1 2/Prairie Man, Delorme, Donlin 119 15-1 3/Bold Raider, Arroyo, Cole 123 10-1 4/Ethan David, Dieguez, Gourneau 123 10-1 5/Tez Virat, Butler, Rhone 119 3-1 6/Bear Island, Riggs, Wekseth 123 7-2 7/Luxury and Glitter, Luark, Sweere 123 12-1 8/Affirmed Cure, Velazquez, Peters 114 6-1 9/Sam Wayne, Castro, Riecken 119 8-1 10/Lions Court, Keith, Hanson 119 8-1 BEAR ISLAND could try to sneak away up front as possible lone speed. Comes out of a live heat where he dueled up front and held on for place honors. Jockey Riggs has been riding flawlessly. TEZ VIRAT is the deserving M/L favorite who will show good early speed but the 3-year-old colt is not my top selection because of inconsistency. Was a well-bet disappointment last effort after running a 60 speed figure race before. Logical threat with Butler/Rhone team for the Kissoon's stable. SUE'S STORMY should improve off lone start after a bit of erratic behavior by running wide, then drifting in. Look for jockey Walker to have him more relaxed.
350 yards. 3-year-olds and up. Maiden claiming $10,000. Purse $4,400. #/Horse, Jockey, Trainer Wt. Odds 1/Ivory Jane Squaw, Luark, Blair 124 4-1 2/High Flyin, Prado, Black 126 15-1 3/Runaway With Cartel, Frink, Hanson 124 10-1 4/Not a Cheap Date, Fennell, Miller 124 9-2 5/Naketa, Goodwin, Hardy 124 6-1 6/Los Darlin Nemo, Swiontek, Miller 124 8-1 7/Brooks Dream Girl, Delorme, White 124 8-1 8/Br Hotrod, Beeson, R. Johnson 124 8-1 9/Get Em Gabe, Arroyo, Livingston 126 10-1 10/Eye M a Pistol, C. Smith, Hanson 126 5-1 I could make a case for most of the field. BROOKS DREAM GIRL has a fast work here and has been facing tougher. Needs a good clean break. RUNAWAY CARTEL also shows a bullet drill and anything close to last year's efforts put him in the mix. IVORY JANE SQUAW faced tougher at Remington Park two months back, so facing softer group tonight could do the trick.
300 yards. 2-year-olds. Maiden claiming $25,000. Purse $4,500. #/Horse, Jockey, Trainer Wt. Odds 1/Pat Hand, Arroyo, White 122 4-1 2/Tres My Tracks, Fennell, Miller 122 5-1 3/Naked Spur, Frink, Hanson 122 6-1 4/Weeza Gettin Down, Delorme, Livingston 122 8-1 5/Mr Shakem Diva, Goodwin, Hardy 122 7-2 6/Eyesa Lajolla, C. Smith, Hanson 122 6-1 7/Tarin Ta Fame, Beeson, R. Johnson 122 8-1 8/My Magic Perry, Swiontek, Miller 122 12-1 9/Bye Bye Brieonna, Luark, Blair 122 10-1 MR SHAKEM DIVA broke awkwardly last out in lone start and trainer Hardy puts the blinkers on. Should see improvement after that bad break from the gate and hopefully it's not a habit. TARIN TA FAME is a new shooter whose trainer hits with 18 percent in first-timers. Has bullet drill to show coming in. EYESA LAJOLLA has a bullet drill out of two works. I think late Pick 3 will pay juicy.
