Justin Morneau pounded the ball pretty good during batting practice.

Morneau then grabbed his glove and took some grounders after batting practice (he's going to have to play first base in Milwaukee) and was going to meet with manager Ron Gardenhire afterward. All indications are that No. 33 will be activated after the game.

Gardy said before the game that it was "impossible" for them to reduce the pitching staff from 13 to 12 right now. That points to Chris Parmelee being the one to go to make room for Morneau.

Righthander Carl Pavano will remain in the Twin Cities for a couple of days work on his shoulder before joining the club in time to start against Milwaukee on Friday. Pavano, bothered by some soreness in his shoulder, went six innings on Monday. There's still a chance that Pavano will receive a cortisone shot after the start in Milwaukee.

Gardy was encouraged that Pavano went six innings. They have been careful with his workload in order to help his shoulder. He felt Pavano had more life on the ball later in the game that he has in recent outings.

Gardy said he's thought about batting Mauer second in the order before, but decided that today is a good day to see how it works. Denard Span has a slightly sore hamstring, so Darin Mastroianni is starting in center field

Matt Capps will not be used today. Usually a manager will look to get his closer right back in action after a bad outing, but Capps has been up four straight games and Gardy wants to give him a day off. Glen Perkins or Jared Burton will close today - if the Twins are in a save situation.
