Martin Laird never surrendered the lead Saturday in the Bay Hill Invitational in Orlando, Fla. He made it through an up-and-down day with a 2-under 70 and held a two-shot lead over Spencer Levin.

Laird built a four-stroke lead, but he and Levin were tied with three holes to play. Laird birdied No. 16, and Levin bogeyed.

Laird is at 11-under 205.

Tiger Woods had another Saturday swoon, trading an eagle and birdies with bogeys and a double bogey that sent him to a 2-over 74 and left him 10 shots out of the lead.

European Tour record of 60 tied again

Kenneth Ferrie shot a 60 to equal the PGA European Tour record at the Andalucia Open in Malaga, Spain, climbing within one stroke of leader Paul Lawrie. Thirteen other golfers have shot 60 on the European Tour.

• Second-ranked Jiyai Shin shot a 3-under 70 and held a one-stroke lead over Sandra Gal after the third round of the LPGA Tour Kia Classic in Industry, Calif.

Japanese horse wins World Cup Japan's Victoire Pisa won the $10 million World Cup by a half-length in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, capturing the world's richest horse race.

Three Japanese horses were entered, and their owners and trainers wore polo shirts with the word "Hope" on the sleeve and the date of the earthquake on the back.

Two horses stake Derby claims

• Pants On Fire came from just off the pace to win the $1 million Louisiana Derby in New Orleans, and Animal Kingdom roared to the front at the turn to win the $500,000 Spiral Stakes at Turfway Park in Florence, Ky. Each now has enough graded earnings to enter the May 7 Kentucky Derby.

Roddick falls in Key Biscayne Ailing Andy Roddick lost his opening match at the Sony Ericsson Open in Key Biscayne, Fla., to Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay, 6-4, 7-6 (4).

Two-time champion Roddick requested three visits from a trainer in the second set and said he had trouble breathing because of chest congestion. He has struggled to shake a bronchial infection he contracted last month.

BASEBALL

Mets' Paulino has health concern The New York Mets shut down backup catcher Ronny Paulino because of concerns over the results of blood work done when he arrived at camp.

General Manager Sandy Alderson did not specify the concerns. Paulino already was scheduled to miss the first eight games of the regular season to complete a suspension for testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs last year.

"It has nothing to do with any other issues," Alderson said. "It has to do with blood counts."

Cubs cut Silva, who's owed $11.5 million

Chicago Cubs righthander Carlos Silva has been told he will not be on the team's 25-man roster when the season starts Friday. Silva will be offered a minor league assignment, but he said there was "no chance" he would report to Class AAA Iowa. If Silva opts to be released, the Cubs are on the hook for his $11.5 million salary.

U.S. ties Argentina, Messi Juan Agudelo scored a 59th-minute goal to give the United States a surprising 1-1 draw against Argentina and superstar Lionel Messi in a high-profile exhibition game in East Rutherford, N.J.

A crowd of 78,936 at the New Meadowlands Stadium watched 18-year-old Agudelo score his second goal in three international appearances.

AUTO RACING

Kyle Busch wins Nationwide again Kyle Busch took a late lead and held off Carl Edwards and Kevin Harvick to win his third consecutive Nationwide race at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif.

Busch has won five of his past six races at Fontana and three of the five Nationwide races this season.

Edwards finished second and Harvick third.
