They logged the miles, and beat the heat

After a 12-hour bus ride and three plane flights, Mykola Antonenko was more of a candidate for jetlag and a cool, air-conditioned hotel room than the winner's circle at the Twin Cities Marathon. But the 35-year-old Ukrainian separated from the pack early and, on an unusually muggy October day that had race officials on alert, beat the nearest competitor to the finish by more than six minutes. The women's champion, Svetlana Pomomarenko, a 38-year-old Russian who lives in New York, added the Twin Cities championship to one she captured in Dallas last year, and indicated that she might return to defend her title. AND IN THE 10-MILE RACE

Two-time U.S. Olympian Abdi Abdirahman beat an elite field and won the men's race; Kristen Nicolini Lehmkuhle, the wife of men's runner-up Jason Lehmkuhle of Team USA Minnesota, won the women's race in her debut at that distance. C10
