Brittney Dolgner had a match-high 22 kills to lead No. 9 Wisconsin to a Big Ten volleyball sweep of the 11th-ranked Gophers on Friday at the Sports Pavilion.
The Badgers won 30-28, 30-26, 30-25, improving to 15-1 overall and 7-0 in the conference. They won at Minnesota (12-5, 5-2) for the first time since 2001.
The announced attendance of 5,458 was the second-highest total at the Sports Pavilion in school history, and the most fans to see a match there since Nov. 19, 1999, when 5,840 fans saw the Gophers face Penn State.
"I don't want to take any credit away from Wisconsin, because I thought they played a good match tonight, but we did not execute very well tonight," Gophers coach Mike Hebert said. "Our ball control was not very good tonight. That affected the setting, which made our hitters tentative when they went up to hit their shots. Overall, Wisconsin's ball control and defense were more crisp tonight."
Allison Wack and Taylor Reineke each had eight kills for the Badgers, who had a .190 kill percentage for the match compared to .163 for the Gophers. Wack had a school-record 26 digs.
Kyla Roehrig had 15 kills and Lauren Gibbemeyer had nine kills to lead the Gophers.
The Gophers soccer team lost 4-2 to the No. 25-ranked Hoosiers in Bloomington, Ind.
The Gophers (6-5-1, 2-2) fell behind 4-0 partway through the second half as they suffered their second consecutive Big Ten road loss of the season. Indiana extended its unbeaten streak to 12 matches.
"They scored on a couple of set pieces, and we just need to get better at defending those," said head coach Mikki Denney Wright. "We created some opportunities, but it just came down to who could finish the most of them."
Both Gophers goals came in the latter part of the second half. Freshman defender Kylie Kallman scored the first goal of her collegiate career on a penalty kick at the 63:12 mark, and Elena Fruci added her first of the 2007 season in the 73rd minute.
