Columnist says Oklahoma State coach attacked her credibility

Last update: September 25, 2007 - 10:55 PM

A columnist for the largest newspaper in Oklahoma wrote Tuesday that Oklahoma State football coach Mike Gundy "attacked my credibility" during a postgame tirade three days earlier.

Jenni Carlson, in a column that appeared on the front page of The Oklahoman, maintained the accuracy of an earlier column critical of the Cowboys' former starting quarterback.

During Gundy's news conference Monday, Carlson asked the coach to point out what he thought were factual errors.

"I don't have to," Gundy said.

Carlson asked again, and Gundy said, "I don't have to. I'd rather just let it go."

Carlson said in her Tuesday column that she would like to do the same, had Gundy not questioned her credibility.

"I feel as adamant about the facts in that column as Gundy did in his belief that his player shouldn't have been so scrutinized," she said. "I will not stand on the sidelines and allow someone to attack my credibility."

Iowa's Brodell likely out for the season

Iowa wide receiver Andy Brodell is likely to miss the rest of the season after tearing his hamstring during Saturday's loss to Wisconsin.

Brodell, Iowa's primary wideout and punt returner, ranked second on the team with 13 catches and was averaging 14.4 yards a return.

Iowa also will be without junior tight end Tony Moeaki for Saturday's game against Indiana. Moeaki, the team leader with 14 receptions, could miss up to a month after dislocating his elbow and breaking a bone in his hand on the same play against Wisconsin.

Ohio State reserve QB accused of soliciting

Antonio Henton, Ohio State's third-team quarterback and fourth-leading rusher, has been accused of offering a female police officer $20 for sex, authorities said.

Henton, a redshirt freshman, completed one pass in four attempts for 20 yards and also ran for 31 yards on seven carries in the eighth-ranked Buckeyes' 58-7 victory over Northwestern.

Coach Jim Tressel said Henton will not travel to Minnesota for Saturday's game.

Etc.

• A judge issued an arrest warrant for Michigan defensive end Brandon Graham for skipping his trial on a disorderly conduct charge involving loud music, court records say. Graham made two tackles for a loss, recovered a fumble and forced a fumble in the Wolverines' 14-9 victory over Penn State on Saturday.

• Oklahoma defensive end John Williams had surgery to repair a torn Achilles' tendon and will miss the rest of the season. Williams started three of No. 3 Oklahoma's first four games.

• TCU defensive end Tommy Blake will miss at least the next two games on medical leave, the second time this season he's been sidelined for undisclosed reasons.
