All-Star outfielder Andrew McCutchen and the Philadelphia Phillies agreed to a $50 million, three-year contract Tuesday.
The 32-year-old McCutchen was an All-Star each season from 2011-15, topping .300 in batting average from 2012-14. He was the NL MVP in 2013.
McCutchen played nine years with Pittsburgh before he was traded to San Francisco last winter. He was dealt to the New York Yankees on Aug. 31 and hit .255 with 20 homers and 65 RBI in 155 games overall this year.
McCutchen has 223 homers, a .287 average and 790 RBI in 10 major league seasons.
Troy Tulowitzki was released by the Blue Jays, who owe the oft-injured shortstop $38 million for the remaining two years of his contract. Now 34, Tulowitzki has not played in the major leagues since July 2017. He was limited that year to 66 games because of a hamstring and right ankle injury.
Stark wins Spink Award
Jayson Stark, the longtime Philadelphia Inquirer writer and ESPN contributor now with the Athletic, won the J.G. Taylor Spink Award for meritorious contributions to baseball writing. He will be honored during the Hall of Fame's induction weekend from July 19-22 in Cooperstown, N.Y.
Stark received 270 of 463 votes in balloting by members of the Baseball Writers' Association of America with at least 10 consecutive years in the organization. Jim Reeves of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram got 111 votes and the Star Tribune's Patrick Reusse received 80.

Salary cap to increase
NFL teams were told by the league that the salary cap is projected to increase to an estimated $187 million to $191.1 million per club for 2019.
That would represent a jump of about $10 million or more from this season's figure of $177.2 million per team. The increase should ensure that most teams will have considerable flexibility to make player-related moves during the upcoming offseason.

Three Bison are first team All-Americans
North Dakota State quarterback Easton Stick was one of three Bison players selected to the Associated Press FCS All-America team.Stick is joined by North Dakota State offensive lineman Tanner Volson and defensive back Robbie Grimsley on the first team.
The top-seeded Bison, who will play South Dakota State in the semifinals Friday, also placed defensive lineman Greg Menard and linebacker Jabril Cox on the second team and offensive lineman Zack Johnson on the third team.
