MADISON, Wis. — Gov. Scott Walker has scheduled a special election to fill the Wisconsin Senate seat being vacated by Congressman-elect Glenn Grothman.
Grothman, a Republican from Campbellsport, was elected last month to succeed retiring U.S. Rep. Tom Petri. Grothman has resigned his state Senate seat effective Jan. 3, when he starts his congressional term.
Walker scheduled the special election to be held at the same time as the spring election on April 7. If a primary is needed, it will be held with the spring primary on Feb. 17.
Nomination papers for candidates are due by 5 p.m. Jan. 6. The term will run until January 2017.
