Carelton Orchestra invites public to its winter concert

The public is invited to the Carleton College Orchestra's winter concert at 8 p.m. Friday in the college's concert hall.

The program will feature Britten's Four Sea Interludes and Sibelius' Symphony No. 5 in E flat. It will be directed by Hector Valdivia. In addition to his teaching work, Valdivia performs as a violinist with the Veblen Piano Trio and has recently recorded Beach's "Variations of Balkan Themes" with the Moravian Philharmonic in Olomouc, Czech Republic.

U.S. foreign policy series has begun at library

The Dakota County Library is again holding the Great Decisions series, a nonpartisan discussion forum on American foreign policy issues, at the Galaxie Library in Apple Valley. Each evening's program will feature a presenter with expertise in the topic.

Participants are encouraged, but not required, to read the Great Decisions booklet available at the Galaxie Library information desk.

Each forum will run from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Remaining topics and dates are: Food and climate, March 18; Turkey's challenges, April 1, and Islamic awakening, April 15.
