Sharon Jones is sticking to her word. After canceling her 2013 tour and postponing the release of her album last year while she underwent treatment for cancer, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings will return April 9 at the State Theatre in Minneapolis and their fifth album, “Give the People What They Want,” will be released Jan. 14.
The soul dynamo and her Brooklyn band were scheduled to perform last July at the Basilica Block Party in Minneapolis but, after the announcement of her cancer in June, all her performances were called off and the August release of the album postponed.
Jones and the Dap-Kings have built a following in the Twin Cities with winning performances at First Avenue, the State Fair, Rock the Garden and the Pantages, among other places.
Tickets for the April concert will go on sale at noon Saturday at the State box office and Ticketmaster outlets.
