Report: Shaka Smart staying at VCU? Not what Gophers fans want to hear
March 26, 2013 — 3:39pm
Everyone knows that the first name at the top of Minnesota athletic director Norwood Teague and Co.'s list is Shaka Smart. The current VCU head coach is one of the hottest names in college basketball and could be a bonafide program savior for the Gophers. He was also hired by Teague when he was VCU's AD.
Whether any aspect of that fairy tale is realistic or not (holding comments) is another strory, and one we might not have much time to wax poetic on.
What? Why? you ask. Why can't we dream?
Well because Smart -- who is also being heavily wooed by UCLA -- just might not be going anywhere.
Sports Illustrated's Pete Thamel tweeted the following around 2:15 on Tuesday:
Sorry, UCLA. VCU is working on an contract extension to keep Shaka Smart. Should have an agreement soon.

In a resounding rebuke, Democrats joined with Republicans Wednesday to hand Barack Obama the first veto override of his presidency, voting overwhelmingly to allow families of Sept. 11 victims to sue Saudi Arabia in U.S. courts for its alleged backing of the attackers.
