SCSU overtakes Denver for first place • ST. CLOUD STATE 3, COLORADO COLLEGE 1: Ben Hanowski and Jonny Brodzinski scored goals 1 minute, 38 seconds apart in the middle of the second period as the Huskies (11-7, 9-5) beat the visiting Tigers (8-10-2, 5-6-1) on Saturday to sweep their series at the National Hockey Center. Kalle Kassila had the first goal for SCSU, it was his 10th of the season. With its victory and Denver's loss, St. Cloud State moved into first place in the WCHA. The Huskies have 18 points. Denver and North Dakota are tied for second place with 17 points apiece.

• BEMIDJI STATE 5, DENVER 1: Jeff Jubinville's two goals led the Beavers (5-8-3, 4-7-3) to an upset of reeling Denver, which came to Bemidji in first place in the conference but isn't anymore after getting only one point on Friday's 1-1 overtime tie. The Pioneers (9-6-3, 7-4-3) are now winless in their past eight games.

David Boehm and Brance Orban each had a goal and two assists for Bemidji State while goalie Andrew Walsh had 24 saves.

• NORTH DAKOTA 4, MICHIGAN TECH 1: Senior winger Danny Kristo of Eden Prairie had a goal and two assists as UND (10-5-3, 7-2-3) beat the Huskies. Colton St. Clair, Corban Knight and Mark MacMillan had the other goals for the visitors. David Johnstone scored on a power-play for the Huskies (4-10-3, 3-8-3), who were outshot 44-32 and outscored 10-2 in the series.

• NEBRASKA OMAHA 5, MINNESOTA STATE MANKATO 1: Five different players scored goals and 10 had one point apiece for the red Mavericks (11-6-1, 7-4-1) as they ended MSU's seven-game winning streak. Jonnie Searfoss and Dominic Zombo gave UNO a 2-0 lead with goals 24 seconds apart in the 17th minute of the opening period. Matt Leitner had the lone goal for Minnesota State (10-6-2, 8-6) in the third period. Nebraska Omaha led the visitors 3-0 after two periods and outshot them 33-28.

• MINNESOTA DULUTH 2, ALASKA ANCHORAGE 1: Mike Seidel's goal for the visiting Bulldogs (7-8-3, 5-6-3) midway through the third period broke a 1-1 tie. Senior defenseman Andy Welinkski had the other UMD goal on a power-play in the opening period. Daniel Naslund scored later in the first period for UAA (3-9-4, 1-8-3).
