Star Tribune, CarSoup.com become online partners to sell cars

Last update: November 13, 2009 - 6:55 AM

MINNEAPOLIS - The Star Tribune is partnering with CarSoup.com to sell vehicles online.

CarSoup.com will replace the paper's current car-selling site, which was developed by Star Tribune staff and had been powered by Gabriel Technology Solutions and Bluefin Technologies Inc.

The Star Tribune's automotive sales staff will become the local selling arm for CarSoup.com in the Twin Cities, for both dealership and for-sale-by-owner advertising.

Star Tribune spokesman Ben Taylor says no jobs will be cut at the newspaper as a result of the arrangement.

The partnership was announced Thursday and starts Dec. 1.

CarSoup.com was founded in the Twin Cities in 1998. It now operates in 40 states.

The Star Tribune emerged from bankruptcy protection in late September, with the newspaper's main lenders becoming its new owners.
