Altera names former McKinsey executive Michael Nevens to board of directors

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Chip maker Altera Corp. said Tuesday that Michael Nevens has joined its board of directors.

The company said Nevens previously worked for 22 years in various management positions at the consulting group McKinsey & Co.

Shares of Altera rose 20 cents to close Tuesday at $20.47.

Lights out at U energy conference. Irony police notified.

Just as Lawrence Kazmerski, a top official at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, was about to give the keynote address at the University of Minnesota's annual E3 conference at the RiverCentre in St. Paul, the lights went out, bathing the audience in darkness and a deep sense of irony.
