Pedro Hernandez gave up two runs on eight hits while striking out nine over eight innings, and the Saints won their 13th consecutive series in 13 attempts this season with a 3-2 victory over Fargo-Moorhead on Sunday at CHS Field, improving to 33-9 this season.

The Saints took advantage of a throwing error by pitcher Tyler Alexander to score twice in the second inning for a 2-1 lead, then added a run in the sixth.

Hernandez, the former Twins lefthander, gave up two solo homers.

Long shots rule in quarter horse races

Long shots prevailed in Canterbury Park's richest quarter horse races of the season, as 23-to-1 Eagles Span won the $141,000 Mystic Lake Northlands Futurity, while 11-to-1 Fortune in a Wagon and 24-to-1 Feature a Runaway finished in a dead heat in the $50,000 Canterbury Park Quarter Horse Derby.

Eagles Span held off odds-on favorite and Jason Olmstead-trained stablemate Gone All In by a head in 18.155 seconds for 350 yards, paying $48.80 to win.

In the Canterbury Park Derby, the two winners won by 1¼ lengths in 20.500 seconds for 350 yards.

Ruman wins at BIR

Series points leader Amy Ruman captured her fifth Trans Am class victory of the year in her Corvette during Ryan Companies Independence Day Classic at Brainerd International Raceway. Cliff Ebben finished second in a Ford Mustang and polesittter Doug Peterson third in a Corvette.
