Does anyone else find it odd that, when we begin moving toward a National health care system, the private health care industry suddenly finds $13 billion they can offer up in savings? How about the fact that tobacco, a legal and easily attainable drug for anyone over 21, cannot be marketed in electronic and some print venues, but Lipitor, which can't be purchased without a prescription, is promoted through million dollar television ads, radio spots, and full page layouts in our local newspapers? Why can a hip replacement, which costs $35,000 in America, be obtained for less than a third of that in India? And how do we justify being angry at the auto executives who show up in Washington in their corporate jets, while we sit idly by when insurance executives get golden parachutes of tens of millions of dollars? Hmm!
