Lock and Dam No. 2 at Hastings will close on the Mississippi River on Monday, ending commercial navigation for the year on the Upper Mississippi, the Army Corps of Engineers said. The closure will end barge traffic between Minneapolis and Guttenberg, Iowa. The barge season last year ended on Dec. 5, and the river reopened to navigation on March 17. The Corps is scheduled to begin winter repairs Monday on Lock and Dam No. 6, near Trempealeau, Wis. The repairs, which require the lock to be completely closed, are scheduled to be finished by March 11.
