Lots of openings to report.
On Eat Street, the Copper Hen Cakery & Kitchen (2515 Nicollet Av. S., Mpls., www.copperhenkitchen.com) opened quietly last week.
Spouses Danielle and Chris Bjorling emphasize breads and other baked goods throughout their menu at their handsome new counter-service cafe. Pastries and savory hand pies are served at breakfast, and the sandwich-pizza-focused lunch and dinner menu also includes chicken pot pie, a four-cheese mac-and-cheese and lamb goulash. Dessert begins with cakes.
At Ridgedale, the renovation and expansion of Macy’s now includes a remade Lakeshore Grill (12411 Wayzata Blvd., Minnetonka, www.macysrestaurants.com), with a brighter look, a roomier layout (including a central bar) and a slightly updated menu. There’s also a blast from the past: a massive Waterford crystal chandelier that originally graced the Skyroom at Dayton’s in downtown Minneapolis, then the River Room at Dayton’s — then later Marshall Field’s, then Macy’s — in downtown St. Paul. Another addition: a patio. Lunch and dinner daily.
Another just-reopened remake is FireLake Grill & Cocktail House (31 S. 7th St., Mpls., www.firelake restaurant.com) in the Radisson Plaza Hotel. Those familiar with the restaurant’s Mall of America sibling will recognize the modern Nordic design as well as many of the menu’s items, although chef Jim Kyndberg is preparing a number of downtown-only dishes, including a smoked salmon rillette, a bison/ham hock/wild rice meatloaf and a lobster/shrimp/cod pot pie. The restaurant is open for weekday breakfast (and weekend brunch) and daily lunch and dinner service.
FireLake has also recently launched a food truck, serving some of the menu’s items until the end of the month. Track its whereabouts on Twitter at @firelake.
And Corner Table (www.cornertablerestaurant.com) has made a move. The restaurant has left its longtime storefront at 43rd Street and Nicollet Avenue S. and relocated two blocks south to 4537 Nicollet Av. S., the former home of La Chaya. Chef/co-owner Thomas Boemer is serving dinner Monday through Saturday.
