Repair shop said old battery was new
John Sims of Robbinsdale contacted Whistleblower to report a case of battery-laundering. With his car battery failing, he drove to the business where he bought it 53 months ago and asked them to honor their promise of a pro-rated refund if it failed before 64 months, Sims said.
Then, according to Sims, he happened to see an employee clean the old battery in the restroom’s wash basin and bring it out to be reinstalled.
Sims confronted the employee, who insisted it was a new battery, despite its residual grime. Eventually a more senior worker had a truly new battery put in. Sims reluctantly paid the full price, with no refund for the old battery.
