Morneau signs one-year contract -- for now

It's not the multiyear deal the Twins hoped to complete (yet), but they did agree to terms Friday with reigning AL MVP Justin Morneau on a one-year, $4.5 million contract.

Morneau's deal was the most significant one of four announced by the Twins. Infielder Nick Punto will receive $4.2 million over two years.

Reliever Juan Rincon agreed to a one-year deal worth $2 million, and outfielder Lew Ford agreed to a one-year deal worth $985,000.

The Twins tried to sign Morneau, who hit .321 with 34 homers and 130 RBI last season, to a multiyear deal, but the gap is significant.
