Here's what's happening this weekend, events-wise, at Twin Cities farmers markets (for a complete list of metro-area markets, go here).
Thursday: The Maple Grove Farmers Market launches its second week of its 2010 outdoor schedule with a cooking demonstration (4 p.m.) featuring Alice Tanghe, co-author of “The Homegrown Minnesota Cookbook,” using seasonal produce selected from market vendors.
Saturday: Cooking with pasture-raised meats, poultry and dairy products (from Lighthouse Farm in Princeton, Minn., Shepherd’s Way Farm in Nerstrand, Minn., and Prairie Hollow Farm in Dover, Minn.) is the focus on the cooking demonstrations (10 a.m. to noon) at the Mill City Farmers Market, featuring chefs from three Minneapolis restaurants: Lucia’s Restaurant, Sen Yai Sen Lek and Hell’s Kitchen. Folks from the Minnesota Sustainable Farming Association will be on hand all day to answer shoppers’ questions about pasture-raised foods. Oh, and don’t miss a peek at the farm animals, courtesy of Gale Woods Farm.
Saturday: At the Minneapolis Farmers Market, blogger Kim Christensen will be on hand (10:30 a.m.) to discuss food allergies and cooking with recipes free of gluten, sugar and other ingredients and will demonstrate how to prepare a few favorite seasonal recipes.
Opening this weekend: the Uptown Market, on 29th St. between Lyndale and Dupont Av. S. in Minneapolis, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
