BRADENTON, FLA. -- Twins manger Ron Gardenhire said the Twins should know by Tuesday how to proceed with closer Joe Nathan, who has a stiff and sore right elbow.
The club decided Saturday to send Nathan to the Twin Cities for an MRI and CT scan after he reported discomfort in his elbow during his outing against the Red Sox. He'll have the MRI on Monday and the results should be known by Tuesday.
``They want to do the same thing as they did in September,'' Gardenhire said. ``The CT and the MRI, get the same images they had and just kind of compare them. They want to do it in the same place.
``He came in today a little sore, from what he told me. And the doctors told me it's soreness in the back of the elbow and we'll go from there.
``They will read it by Tuesday and see where we will be at and do all of our stuff from there.''
Gardenhire wasn't ready to go into contingency plans before he hears from the medical staff.
``There's no sense in worrying about it,'' he said. ``All you can do is...we've got plenty of other guys I've got to worry about right now. Let them do their thing and see what happens and see where we are at. If I had more for you I would be able to tell you. If there was major concern, someone would have told me that. They just want to make sure we're on the same path here. Get him checked out and we'll go from there.''
