The artists of the Studiopolis collective will preview the Red Show tonight, their fourth annual color show, this year featuring the work of some 40 established and emerging Twin Cities artists. The work is all based on the theme "red," including photography, painting, pottery, sculpture, and more. (Might be some Valentine's Day gift ideas here). The show opens on the 5th in studio 423 (7 to 10 p.m) and can be seen on the 6th (noon to 5 p.m.). For more information go to Studiopolis.webs.com/events.htm.

Also tonight, as part of the First Thursday series, a multitude of studios will be open from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Northrup King Building in Minneapolis. You'll find galleries and showrooms that feature furniture, textiles, handmade tiles, painting, metal and fiber arts and rugs.

Here is a sampling of what can be found there:

Danish Teak Classics, a retailer of fine vintage Scandinavian Modern furnishings, lighting, ceramics and glass. Studio 277.

Blue Sky Galleries, which represents 10 local wood artisans. Find wall pieces, lighting and furniture. Studio 295.

Art Andes, which offers unique and durable rugs made of hand-spun, naturally dyed sheep wool. Studio 285.

Kelly Marshall, an artist who uses a Scandinavian Rep weave technique to produce rugs, fabrics, pillows and table runners. Studio 386.

SoMi Tileworks, hand sculpted and hand pressed bas-relief ceramic tiles for kitchens, bathrooms, indoors and out. Studio 463.

If you miss this one, the next one is March 4. First Thursdays run through July 1. (For those who like to plan ahead, Art-A-Whirl is May 14-16.) You can find NKB at 1500 Jackson Street N.E. Phone: 612-363-5612. See the complete schedule at www.northrupkingbuilding.com.

It's a great way to support our local economy.
