Petr Sykora's Wild career is over. The Wild placed the 33-year-old goal scorer on 24-hour waivers Tuesday after the veteran never found a fit on the team's top two lines. The Wild and agent Allan Walsh negotiated a European assignment clause into his contract before the season if things didn't work out. That means the Wild likely would let him exercise that clause rather than assign him to AHL Houston. By rule, if Sykora cleared waivers, the Wild could assign him to Houston and recall him on re-entry waivers, which would allow another team to claim him at half his salary-cap hit. However, the Wild's not planning that maneuver. The Wild is currently practicing, but Sykora has left the team until his future is clearer Wednesday. General Manager Chuck Fletcher declined to comment until the waiver process is over tomorrow. Walsh was unavailable because he was traveling. Winger Robbie Earl has also been placed on waivers. He is currently practicing and if he clears waivers, he can be reassigned to Houston or remain with the club.. After missing seven weeks with a concussion, Sykora played only four games – one on the team's first line Monday in Dallas after being a healthy scratch for six in a row. Sykora, who's scored 20 or more goals for 10 consecutive seasons, scored two goals and one assist in 14 games with the Wild. Defenseman Brent Burns, who has missed 29 games with a concussion, is currently practicing for the first time since November.
