DOW VALE DO BOMFIM 2006
The experience:
This is a wine for those who don't want the "dirt" that usually comes with European reds in this price range. The smooth-as-all-get-out blend glides across the palate with red-berry and spice flavors. It's medium-bodied, soft and elegant, a swell spring sipper.
The setting:
It's almost criminal that this wine is not in a single local restaurant. At less than 13 percent alcohol, it's well-suited for red or white meat or vegetarian dishes -- and a great option with the imminent arrival of Copper River salmon.
The back story:
Dow's ports are justly renowned, and this wine is made primarily from the same grapes (Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca and Touriga Nacional).
The tab:
$12, available at the Wine Thief, South Lyndale, Eden Prairie municipals and Surdyk's.
