FAVORITE MEMORIES

"The [March 1994] triple-overtime game when Voshon Lenard was here, we beat Iowa, and at the end of the game I was hyperventilating. Then on a [February '94] Sunday we beat Indiana by 50, and Bob Knight didn't know what to do.

"But one of the biggest thrills of my life was when the team stopped here before going to the Final Four in San Antonio in 1997. I'll never forget the crowd reaction."

STRANGEST MEMORY

"In 1994, Northwestern coach Ricky Byrdsong walked into the stands during a blowout loss, received a technical foul, then began wandering in the Williams Arena stands, high-fiving fans and stealing seats until ordered to return to the bench.

"I was sitting there at the end of the game, 10 minutes after the game, and he ran over to me and said, 'I want the score changed.' He said, 'We won the game.' He was emphatic. Then he went down to the locker room and he sent two assistants up to get the score changed again. I finally just left."

FAVORITE NAMES TO ANNOUNCE

"Jim Shikenjanski and Ernest Nzigamasabo. And now I've got Jamal Abu-Shamala, who I also had at Shakopee High. And now I'm having fun with [Blake] Hoffarber, when he puts in a three.

"Sometimes I get criticized, because I give the Polish names a little extra."
