Southwest Airlines will start flying between the Twin Cities and Chicago's Midway Airport on March 8. Midway will be the low-fare carrier's only nonstop destination out of the Twin Cities, but Southwest passengers can connect in Chicago to more than 30 Southwest destinations. Here is a sampling of nonstop, round-trip fares that Northwest was charging on Wednesday, and round-trip connecting fares that Southwest published on Thursday.

The prices above require a 21-day advance purchase and do not include airport fees, checked-bag fees and government taxes. The Northwest fares were the lowest offered at www.nwa.com on Wednesday for travel the last week in March. The Southwest fares were provided Thursday by the FareCompare.com website.
