TWINS UPDATE

The Twins' season began to unravel June 24, when they began the day 36-38 — then were swept in a three-game series in Anaheim. … Twins manager Ron Gardenhire committed to playing Danny Santana at shortstop more now that Aaron Hicks is up and he and Jordan Schafer can play center field. … Starting Thursday, the Twins have 13 home games left. … Hicks has hit home runs in each of his past two plate appearances against Santiago. … C.J. Wilson has been tough on Twins' past and current catchers, as Joe Mauer is just 3-for-25 against him in his career and Kurt Suzuki is only 2-for-25.

ANGELS UPDATE

Wilson, whom the Angels need to step up with Garrett Richards out for the season, failed to make it out of the fourth inning Tuesday. That has ramifications because the Angels were considering using a reliever relay to get through Saturday's game. Right now, the starter for that game has not been determined. Matt Shoemaker starts Friday and is the middle of a fine seasons. So a deep outing from him could make it easier for manager Mike Scioscia to rain relievers upon the Twins on Saturday.
